Sharing the Wealth

Gosh I love rags to riches stories. $20,000 must have been a bundle back then to have split it four ways and still consider herself rich beyond working. I am guessing that it must be like getting 4 million dollars. I would be more than happy with 1 million and would gladly split it evenly with my new family, especially because they made her so welcome when she needed it most. She would have been happy with food and rest before taking off again, but they kept her and made her feel good and she could tell that they were good people. How many people now a days would do something like that. I know that if I came into a windfall....say 4 million, I would be doing some sharing, but I must admit I would show preference to people I have known for many years over people I have only known for a couple of months. If I were Jane, I would have thought to reserve some for a favorite charity, such as more improvements at Lowood, or making the school in Morton the best in the county. I would have also made Bessie and her family comfortably well off. Maybe she can still do all those things with $5000.

It is an interesting thought to comprehend the difference in dollar value then and now. It would be a hefty sum to recieve that kind of bank.I would think she would take some to do some traveling being that she has read of places and heard of locations that interest her.I wonder of what kind of knowledge she had on financial investments and planning or if any available without previous wealth.I'm sure Mr.Rochester could show her a thing or two

There's no point in getting tons of money now days. the government takes like 75% OF it.
