Girls, Girls, Girls

At the beginning of Part 2, Siddhartha, now awakened, has decided to learn about the sensory aspects of life. He has a dream where Govinda turns into a woman and he suckles from her breasts. He also meets a young woman who offers herself to him willingly, but he turns her down. Then he sees Kamala, whom he decides should become his teacher. However she tells him he must have clothes, shoes, and money before she will accept him. Why would he choose Kamala with her demands over the other woman who would accept him as is?

maybe shes a challenge? siddhartha is stubborn and raised spoiled. he was seen as the best, the golden child. maybe he wants a woman thats seen as the best too? a woman thats like himself?

My best guest would be he sees something in Kamala that can be more of an asset to him. I also believe a lot of it has to do with being intrigued. If you follow the old rule of you always want what you can't have then this is a perfect example. The woman by the oasis was willing to give him anything; he could have it all. Kamala on the other hand is more secretive. She is requiring him to work for what he will get. This gives her more of an edge and possible makes her more appealing. Also with her being more guarded with herself and her body it makes her a more realistic subject to learn from.

I think because she is being more of a teaches and is being demanding instead of just giving in to him. I think he wants a girl in the aspects of Govinda because they understood one another and could be themselves and did what they felt was right. Now with Kamala that's how things are. They understand eachother and I think she reminds him so much of Govinda that he can't stop thinking about him and talking about him.

I think it is because Siddhartha is looking for more of a teacher figure to teach him the meaning of love and have a better understanding of it, rather than just partcipating in lust for pure pleasure. I also agree with erika that Siddhartha needs a challenge, he is clearly stubborn and knows what he wants, when Kamala tells him she has guide lines he must abide by might have intrigued Siddhartha instead of the women he could have had with no challenge what so ever.

I think it has something to do with Siddhartha and his wanting to learn things. He could have had the other girl, but he would not have learned "love" from her as he did from Kamala.

I think he chose Kamala because in all the rest of his life, everything that he did, he was the most accomplished in each area and learned from the highest individuals. I think in this situation its the very same. He just wanted to learn from the very best and knew that she was the one that needed to teach him. He had had the dream about it and when he went to talk to her there was no voice that told him not to be with her, so that is why he chose Kamala.

He saw something special about her. Maybe that other woman wasn't good enough...she wasn't going to teach him anything important.
