Wha?!?!?!?!
He talks about free will quite a bit. So my question to you is, "Do you believe in free will?" If people viewed the world as billy does I think it would be pretty boring. Knowing what happened would suck, because then there are no surprises no nothing. My follow up is, if you had the opportunity to know what would happen in your life, would you take it? why or why not? me personally, I would hate it, because nothing could excite you, there would be no suspense, sadness, or anything. That would mean a boring life. I don't even think the sense of immortality would be worth it. Looking through that "tube" is what makes life fun to me. If I knew where I was gonna be all the time it would be very boring. Basically what I'm getting at is that you need to explain why you feel the way you do. I couldn't possibly be happy knowing everything. could you? why or why not?

I would never want to see what my furture holds. It can frigthen you, make you do something you shouldnt go to get something you want and can change your furture and it could also change the furture for everyone else invoulved. I think the way billy see's things is hard to understand, because he nevers says ANYTHING! like when he is the airplane and knows it is going to crash! he just sits there and closes his eyes?! like hello, say something, so maybe ppl dont die. But than it could go back and by saying something, it could change someone else furture. it is tuff, but i would never want to know my furture.
It's a tricky question. I do believe that each individual has the choice to make certain decisions. Example we all have the choice to have a drink after work. I don't believe that is a predestined event. However I do believe that the even of becoming an alcoholic is predestined. There are certain things in life that can not be controlled. All the doctors in the world can not prevent cancer, but a person can make the conscious decision to live a healthier life. So to answer the free will question, yes to some extent I do believe we all have some free will over our lives, but in other aspects things happen that we can not control.
Now the other question. I would never want to know the big picture of my life. I definitely don't want to know when I die or anyone else I am close too, but on the other hand it would be nice to know if at the end of the day everything will turn out ok. I understand these two points of view clash with each other, but I have never been one to contemplate these things. It is just too hard to pick one side or the other for me. I am not that philosophical.
I wouldnt mind seeing my whole life if I could change what was going to happen. It seems that Billy doesnt have a choice or he doesnt think he has a choice so that really sucks for him.
I personally would like to feel that I have control over my life and that my choices can make a genuine difference, but I can understand where the concept of determinism comes from though. I think what is important is at least beleiving that we have free will or we would just plod through life like Billy does, just accepting things as they are. At least the illusion provides us with a passion to enjoy our life and appreciate others.
I would not want to know what was going to happen later in my life. That's part of the excitement of living is not knowing what's going to come next. Life would be so boring if you already knew everything that would take place. I find it odd though that even though billy does know his future he never takes any different path to change things, if i could see the future i'm sure i would try to do things differently or make changes to how my life would go.
Hmm, that is a good question. On one hand I can understand how knowing everything about one's life would make existence dull. But on the other hand, knowing what would happen could allow us to enjoy different aspects of life. Instead of focusing on uncertainty; we could just accept what is. Think of emotions we wouldn’t have to deal with. If we were embarrassed to find ourselves accidentally in the restroom of the opposite sex, we wouldn’t need to feel embarrassed. Instead, we could admire how clean the porcelain looks.
I don't think I would like to know what was going to happen in my life because that would take all the fun out of it. Granted not everything that happens is good but after you think about it life would be nothing without the bad. Could you imagine if everyone had a perfect life? I think it would probably make the world worse than it is today. There would be a lot more conflict I feel. Anyways, I think things happen for a reason and just because you don't know the reason right now doesn't mean you won't find out down the road.
I believe in free will, I believe that every individual, when they are given a choice in life, has the right to choose their own path based on their own opinions, as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else in the process.
As for the next question, I personally would be very tempted to know everything that was going to happen in the future, although I don't think I would choose to know ultimatley. I think that a big part of life is not knowing what is going to come next, being spontaneous and living in the moment. If you knew everything that was going to happen you wouldn't be able to feel emotions such as surprise, suspense, shock, excitment and so many more. I dont't think it would be worth it,in my opinion it would be a very dull life to live.
