What role does Sofia really play in the novel? What is her significance do you think?

I think the role that Sofia plays in the novel is that she encourages Celie and other woman to fight for themselves.

I think sofia plays a role as the strong woman. I like her because she shows all the other woman that they do not have to be beaten and just clean and cook and have babies. they can sing, have a career, anything that a man can do and anything a white person can do.She makes the novel more interseting, because she causes some drama and some insight. Gives the other woman hope, encouragment and strength of a good friend.

Sophia plays the role of a heroine in the Color Purple. She is a symbol of hope for women in the novel who can’t stand up for themselves. Sophia’s and Harpo’s relationship in the novel is complicated because of the dominant role that Sophia assumes. Eventually, Harpo realizes that he doesn’t need to always be in control to love somebody.
